Did Muzan Intentionally Turn Nezuko Into a Demon?
Muzan Kibutsuji has done some terrible things in Demon Slayer, but his slaughter of Tanjiro’s family is one of the most mysterious. People are guessing if Muzan intentionally turned Nezuko into a demon, or was it just an accident?
In the recently released “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” chapter 196, Muzan’s intention when he attacked Tanjiro and Nezuko’s family was finally revealed. Apparently, the demon has been researching ways of eliminating his vulnerability to sunlight.
Muzan Kibutsuji only has one weakness: the sun. He wants to create a demon who can withstand that weakness so he can enjoy his immortal life to the fullest.
In order to do that, he has been sharing his blood with human beings, hoping to find someone who can handle a massive amount of his blood and be able to walk in the sun. Muzan did the same for the Kamados and only Nezuko was able to survive.
Demon Slayer’s manga never confirmed why Muzan thinks Kamados family is able to survive exposure to the sun after transforming into a demon. so perhaps it was a two-birds-one-stone situation with the elimination of the Sun-Breathing users and randomly take this family to make an experiment for him.
By creating a demon who could survive exposure to the sun, Muzan would then only need to consume that demon to gain the ability for himself.
What was even surprising is Muzan’s goal has finally been realized in Nezuko. She is the demon he needed, as she has the ability to survive sunlight, as revealed in the Swordsmith Village arc.
But unfortunately for Muzan, he picked the wrong family to mess with, as Tanjiro joining the Demon Slayer Corps is what ultimately led to Muzan’s defeat and death.
Why Did the Muzan Decide to Butcher the Kamado Family?
The most common and logical reason for Muzan killing Tanjiro’s family is revenge. It is possible that Muzan has accidentally found the bearers of the hanafuda earrings. So he has gone to the mountains to personally eliminate the last of the bearers of those earrings.
When Muzan saw these hanafuda earrings, he remembered the night he almost died in the hands of a demon slayer with the same accessories plus a red sword. Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the first swordsmen to use sun breath came close to killing Muzan with Sun-Breathing, which marked this demon both physically and psychologically. From that date, Muzan went to great lengths to ensure that the Sun-Breathing was eliminated.
Teaming up with Kokushibo, Muzan and his most powerful demon traveled across Japan, killing anyone who had heard of Sun-Breathing.
It is important to point out that members of the Kamado Family are not direct descendants of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the Sun Breathing user. The Kamado family comes from Sumiyoshi, a close friend of Yoriichi Tsugikuni. When Sumiyoshi saw the Breath of the Sun style, he started passing it down through his family to the eldest son, calling it “hinokami kagura”, then it passed down through the Kamado family as a ceremonial dance.
When Does Nezuko Become Human Again?
In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Chapter 196, Tamayo was the one to give her the drug that made her human again. We will see this scene in final season of Demon Slayer, which maybe released in 2024 or 2025.
